Day 37 4th September Carnarvon to Denham

DAY 37

4th September
Carnarvon to Denham

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEV!

We are driving into a head wind today. Fuel consumption not so good! Clouds in the sky for the first time in 5 weeks. Stopped at a lookout WOW what a strange place- hundreds of garden gnomes all looking at the view. It was freezing and raining but I got a photo. I don't know who puts them there but it looks like a grey nomads buriel ground as a pile of rocks had lots of RIP's wrtten on them. STRANGE!!
Gnomes in the middle of nowhere!!!

Lots of lovely yellow wild flowers growing against the red soil and lots of wild goats on the road today.

Stopped at Hamelin Homestead to look at the Stromalatities. These are ancient living fossils and only grow in this area. There are different shapes but they are very slow growing. This is a World Heritage Area as is the whole of Shark Bay Area.

From here we went to Shell Beach what a great place only two in the world where the whole beach is made from one type of shell. Millions of tiny shells 10m deep. They harden are cut out in blocks and used for paving and building materials.Beautiful white beach and turquoise blue water. What a magic place! Only a few kms from the stromalitites such a contrast.

Crossed over the 26th Parallel. Continued on to Denham and booked in to Caravan Park. Our spot is right on the beach omly a hessian fence between us and the sand. Beauutiful blue water.
Walked the main street, bought our Monkey Mia pass for tomorrow to see the dolphins.
We had a barbie and cake for Nev's birthday in the camp kitchen tonight. Girls do the salads and the boys do the cooking. Found some lamingtons and a small carrot cake in the local supermarket added some candles for a birthday cake. Fun night Nev got a lovely Pilbara Book and a wine holder for his B'day.
