DAY 34 1st September Yardie Creek

DAY 34

1st September
Yardie Creek

Colleen, Carl and us have booked on a full day snorkelling cruise on the reef both inside and outside and are hoping to see some Whale Sharks. Apparently there was one or two hanging around very late in the season. We were picked up at 9am and drove to boat ramp where we got on a zodiac out to our big boat.

There was 18 of us on the boat, beautiful boat and off we went to our first snorkelling place.

Ready for a snorkel
Unbelievable fish and coral. Then back on board for morning tea and travel outside the reef where the big stuff is. We saw some dugongs, turtles, sailfish and whales. A spotter plane went up to find the whale sharks but no luck but found a pod of humpback whales so we went over to them and they played around us for a long time.

Very difficult to get photos but Nev did a great job and got some good shots. It was very exciting they came very close to the boat we could feel the spray from their spout.
Back inside the reef for a different snorkel amongst a variety of coral and then back to camp about 3.30pm. Very tired but wanted to go and look at lighthouse where radar was sent from in WW11.
Quick trip up there and then back for high tea. The ladies all had to make a plate of food, I made chocolate balls yesterday-no cooking!!!
