DAY 31 29th August Roebourne

DAY 31

29th August
Roebourne

Not an early start everyone is doing their own thing around Karatha and Dampier today. So first stop for us ws the Red Dog statue. We loved the movie and have seen quite a few real red dogs around. Had photos taken at the statue.

Nev, me and red dog.

We found some interesting aboriginal carvings ar etchings in a small rocky canyon. Hard to know how they did it because the rock is iron stone and very hard. There was also a bridge with continual trains with iron ore passing under them. They can be 265 cars long sometimes and a couple of kms.

We drove to the offshore gas Northwest Shelf Information Centre.
It was very interesting to see how the gas was actually formed millions of years ago and how they pipe it to shore under the sea.
It takes up a huge area north of Dampier and is going to expand and have two rigs out at sea side by side. They were constructing it on shore.

We had lunch near the water at Dampier under some palm trees. Haven't seen them for a while! Drove to a couple of lookouts, shopped at woollies(thank goodness for woollies everywhere), got some fuel and back to camp. Big day driving tomorrow.
