Karijini National Park
The park is in two main areas so we will go to one end today. Very cold night and hot days here. Headed east to Dales walks area. Did the Dales Gorge walk all morning. We crossed water climbed over rocks and scrambled up and down hills. Great fun with the group and red,red walls of beautiful gorges, white trunks of gum trees and beautiful blue skies. Walked one way to Circular pool at the end of gorge. Saw some asbestos through the rock layers (we are not far from Wittenoon area).
Whole cliff held up by this narrow pillar of rock! |
Fern Pool great swim here |
Headed back up the gorge the other way to Fortiscue Falls and Fern Pool. This is such a pretty area you walk around wide eyed looking at amazing scenery. Fern Pool is fed by an underground spring and is a great swimming hole with a small waterfall at one end. The water is very clear and a deep blue in colour. We all went for a dip, very refreshing. Then back to vehicles for a picnic lunch.
Joffe Gorge |
After lunch we drove to the visitors centre for a good look.
It is built out of iron and is shaped like a lizard from the air. Fascinating
history and aboriginal recounts of the early days. Drove to Kalimina Gorge and
went for a short walk to some cascade waterfalls and then on to Joffe and Knox
gorges lookouts. It was about 4pm and the sun was lowering sun was shining on
the red rocks. Hard to capture the beauty of this place on photos.
There are lovely wild flowers scattered amongst the spinifex
grass, little spinifex pigeons are running around on the ground and little red
coloured geckoes are sunning on the rocks everywhere.
A wonderful day in a fantastic National Park.
