DAY 36 3rd September Carnarvon

DAY 36

3rd September
Carnarvon

Easy day today everyone doing their own thing around Carnarvon after a barbie brekky in the camp kitchen. We all had eggs and bacon before heading off to explore. It is not a very big place so we nearly all ended up at the same places.
First stop was One Mile Jetty. It Built in 1897 to allow livesock and wool to be exported. It was the first port in WAto export livestock.

Walking out to One Mile Jetty

What a fascinating place, their is a volunteer historical society that has a museum set up and they have preserved a little train the runs along the jetty. What an experience-it is called "The Coffee Pot" train because of the shape of the engine. (no coffee on it) The driver was a real character looked like a female largeversion of Casey Jones. We all went for the ride and then walked back into town.

The boys thought it was a bit of a joke!

The boys were hungry so we did the "Food Trail" as Carnarvon grows a lot of produce for the Gascoyne Area. They irrigate up side down form the sand under the dry Gascoyne River. Bananas, tomatoes, mangoes ,corn strawberries etc etc. Called in to one farm called "Bumbaks" and had mangoe smoothy and mango ice cream Yum!
We then drove to the old OTC antennae used in the Man on the moon mission in the 60s. Not used now. Good look out.

After that we went to harbour area where the Norwest Fleet is based.

On to woollies to stock up and back to happy hour and pack up. Rained for the first time and very very windy tonight.
