Rottnest Island Day Trip today. Up very early and down to
the wharf to collect our pushbikes to take to the island. The bikes and us were
loaded on to the fast ferry and off we set off at about 7.20am. It takes about 45minutes to get there.
We saw a couple of whales on the way over. We decided on our route and off we
went on our bikes to see the sights. We saw a lot of Quokkas, they only live on
Rottnest and were endangered at one time. They are like a tiny kangaroo, they
have a pouch and some of them had babies.
Quokka on Rottnest Island |
The ride was fun but it is very hilly
there had to walk my bike a couple of times.
Me, Paul and Wendy downhill!!! |
Back to the only township for
lunch and locked the bikes up enough riding for me. We caught the bus around
the island in the afternoon and went to side we hadn’t ridden to. We stopped a
walked up to the lighthouse and just in time for the last our inside. We
climbed up the 124 stairs to the light amazing sight and history to it. The
lighthouse keeper had to climb up every 4 hours day and night to keep the light
lit. I think I would have slept up the top although it was very small! Back to
wait for the boat and an ice cream. A very full day and we were all exhausted
when we got back to camp. A lot of fun!!
At the top of lighthouse pretty windy!!
