Alice Springs to Tanami Downs
Some interesting road sign out here! |
We have a long way to go today so left Alice at 7.30am and
headed up the Stuart Highway towards the Tilmouth Wells turn off. We are travelling a long side the McDonnell
Ranges and the other side of the road is very flat with scrubby vegetation.
Stopped at Tilmouth Wells to get fuel ($2.15 per litre) and for morning tea this is the end of
the bitumen for a couple of days. It is a roadhouse with an aboriginal art
gallery attached to it. There were some lovely paintings from the local artists
and we bought one.

Passed our first wild camel all alone next to the road. Passed a couple of gold mines they have huge
leases of land in the middle of nowhere. 9 burnt out cars were left on the side
of the road and lots of car bits strewn along the roadside from the aborigines.
We pulled in to Tanami Downs Homestead road and found a clearing about 1km down
the road near their enormous letterbox that even had a heat shield on top of
it. Camped for the night and had a great campfire.
Beautiful night!Great campfire!Just needed some marshmallows!
