14th September
Perth to Busselton
Today is the day we will separate into two groups. We have
ended up with 5 cars coming with us down south so not the small group we
thought we would have!
We left camp first at 7am and headed for Subiaco Markets. A
bit disappointing as they were very small.
We then went to Freemantle Gaol WOW!
What an interesting place. We did and hour and a quarter tour around the
gaol which only closed in 1991. It was a maximum security gaol and very scary
being a prisoner in those days. It was built by convict labour after requesting
them from England as WA was settled by free settlers. It took 8 years to build
out of limestone blocks cut from the hill where the gaol stands. We went into
the hanging room where 43 men and 1 woman have been hanged. The last one in
1964. Not a nice place to be in that is for sure.

We went to the Freemantle markets briefly and walked around
the new Maritime museum and saw HMAS Ovens a submarine being reconditioned.
We had lunch at Cicorelli’s a famous fish and chip shop on
the dock of Freemantle.
After lunch we travelled down through Rockingham, Mandurah, Pinjarra,
Bunbury and then on to Busselton where we will stay for two nights.
